University Engineer

Harper Adams University has an exciting opportunity for an experienced University Engineer to join the Estates and Facilities team. The role holder will look after the campus building services engineering infrastructure and manage utilities procurement and budget. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the campus building services engineering infrastructure, including district heating network (fed by biomass and gas fired CHP), solar PV arrays and water abstraction and treatment plant. They will manage the central infrastructure coordinated with the local systems and the utilities to reduce operating costs and meet carbon reduction targets set out in the Carbon Management Plan. To support this decarbonisation the post-holder will be a key part of the team delivering significant capital investment to improve energy efficiency, provide better monitoring and controls and further develop low and zero carbon generation onsite. 

The post-holder will have excellent interpersonal and communications skills. They will be able to understand, analyse and communicate data both in detail and big picture. They will be able to operate campus building services engineering infrastructure effectively and efficiently and be enthusiastic about developing the engineering infrastructure to deliver decarbonisation.

The post-holder will have a background in facilities management, building services and engineering infrastructure with experience of the managing a reasonably substantial utilities budget.  They will be able to manage service contracts and business continuity cover. They will have had experience of delivering building services engineering infrastructure capital works.
