Harper Adams University wishes to recruit a Reader in Beef Production who will develop a research and knowledge exchange programme. Harper Adams has an enviable reputation in the field of higher education and has remained true to its core values in agriculture, whilst meeting the ever increasing challenges faced by rural areas nationally and internationally.

The University provides specialist higher education across a broad range of subjects relating to the land, food and environment and the businesses associated with them. It has just over one-fifth of all undergraduate agriculture students in the UK and the only undergraduate provision in agricultural engineering. It is developing its postgraduate and research capabilities, with significant recent growth in applied research projects, associated income and improved performance in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. It also has sound relations with selected international partners that are helping to develop the global profile of the institution. Closer to home, the University’s estate has seen significant investment in the period since 2001 and plans are in place for further exciting developments that will keep Harper Adams at the forefront of provision for its students and staff. This includes creation of a Vet School (500 students) in collaboration with Keele University, due to open in 2020.

The role of Reader in Beef Production will ensure that the UK, and England in particular, will continue to contribute to the global effort on beef research. Our partnership with ABP Food Group, one of Europe’s leading food processors, is another example of what can be achieved when Universities and industry work in harmony. The University is a key institution in helping deliver Government’s Agri-Tech Strategy having been recipients of an investment in facilities to create part of the Centre of Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL). The relationship between the University, industry and CIEL will be a key strategic priority in the next few years.
