Research Assistant (Full Time/Fixed Term Contract)

The main duties and responsibilities of this post will focus on research for Task 1.2 of Work Package 1 of the PPILOW (Poultry and Pig Low-input and Organic production systems Welfare) project which comprises a consortium of European universities and is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No. 816172. Specifically, the main duties of the role include:

  1. Designing research instruments for use in focus group discussions;

  2. Supporting focus group discussions involving UK farmers, livestock processors, retailers, consumers, and policy makers;

  3. Coordinating a programme of focus group discussions being conducted by other PPILOW consortium members in France, Belgium, Finland, Italy, and Romania.

  4. Transcribing, processing and analysing data generated via all the focus group discussions;

  5. Writing a report summarising the findings of the focus group discussions;

  6. Disseminating the findings of the focus group discussions via presentations, reports and journal papers as appropriate.

  7. All other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post and the salary range of the grade.  

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject; experience of agriculture and of administrating and coordinating project-work; and possess self-motivation and autonomy sufficient to work semi-independently. Ideally, they should also have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject; experience of market research; experience of international cultures; some knowledge of pig and poultry production and animal welfare; and possess organisational and report writing skills.
